Verbs

Verbs are special words in a sentence because they show actions, events, or states of being. Here are some key points about verbs:

1. Actions: Verbs tell us what someone or something is doing. For example, "run," "eat," and "jump" are action verbs.
2. Events: Verbs can also show events or occurrences. For instance, "happen," "begin," and "change."
3. States of Being: Some verbs describe a state or condition, like "be," "seem," and "become."

Verbs are essential because they help us understand what is happening in a sentence. They can also change form to show different times (past, present, definite) and match the subject of the sentence (singular or plural).
In summary, verbs are the action words in sentences that tell us what is happening, when it is happening, and who is doing it.

Series 1: basic

We start with some basic verbs: verbs that you will use many times. The symbols are sometimes difficult as these verbs are use in different situations, like the verb "to be" (Dutch"zijn) that can be used to indicate a position or a certain feeling. The verbs, to have, to eat, to drink, to love, to want are related to easy drawings. But he verb to can (Dutch: kunnen) is more abstract. It refers to "being able to".

So the sentence Dutch: "ik kan zwemmen" means "I am able to swim" or "I can swim"

Of course we are interested about how much it will cost (Dutch: kosten) and then we buy (Dutch: kopen) and we pay (Dutch: betalen). Postures

Postures are indicated by a "person in a circle". But many times it is not about a human being. Examine for instance the sentence "the flowers stand (Dutch: staan) on the table".

As postures usually are given with a preposition show the most important prepositions referring to a position also in the drawing..
