Pronunciation (1)
Our language coach emphasized that the next part is crucial for learning Dutch. He mentioned that this is, in fact, the first series of words that are given here to understand the spelling and pronunciation of words. So, there was only one conclusion: we had to do it. And you’ll see, it’s quite easy!
Fortunately, there are also enjoyable aspects, particularly the sections with puzzles.
To simplify the learning process, we begin by introducing words that comprise no more than three characters. Through illustrations, the meaning of each word is evident. For example, consider the word 'vis,' which is Dutch for 'fish.' This is demonstrated by:
The Dutch word 'vis' is composed of three letters: v, i, and s. The letters v and s are consonants, while i is a vowel. Through the video, learners are introduced to the sounds of the consonants v and s, as well as the vowel i. Ultimately, viewers can both see and hear how the word is spelled and pronounced.
I want cola
The next video is also interesting because it introduces our first sentence, showing how to express a desire. The sentence is "I want cola".
Here’s how it breaks down:
1. It starts with 'I'. The Dutch for 'I' is 'ik,' represented by a person pointing at themselves. This is a personal pronoun.
2. Next is 'want'. Being a verb, it's shown inside a circle.
3. After that, we see 'the object' we want. In this example, it's 'Cola,' a word that's the same internationally and needs no translation.
In Dutch, sentences usually start with a personal pronoun, followed by a verb, and then the object related to the verb.
The focus word here is 'wil,' which is derived from the Dutch verb "willen" and means 'want'. Notice that the form of a verb is related to the personal pronoun.
