Dutch foods and drinks

An important topic of this lesson is "food and drinks." Upon arriving in the Netherlands, we were curious about typical Dutch cuisine. Anna did not like the idea of eating raw fish. Our language coach reassured us, explaining that the fish is prepared and any undesirable parts are removed. "Give it a try," he encouraged.

It is delicious!

But soon it turned out that there was something special we all liked:

Typical Dutch: "stroopwafels" (waffles with syrup):

The third lesson

This is the third lesson. According to our study plan, we have finished the first lessons in our first month. Our goal is to complete the course in three months. We've encountered challenges in remembering words, expressions, and sentences. Our language coach mentioned that learning a language can be more challenging at an older age due to decreased brain flexibility, and he is right.

Language learning at a very young age

Repeat, repeat, and... repeat

He mentioned two important points:

Repetition: repetition is key in language learning. Aim to repeat what you have learned as much as possible. With flashcards, it is easy to master the most important words. By the end of this lesson, we will have collected many important exercises using flashcards.

Rules: some understanding of the language's rules is important. Young children acquire language through communication with their parents over several years without needing explicit explanations of grammar. At an older age, this method is not possible. Therefore, knowledge of a language's structure, or grammar, is necessary. This lesson will focus on verbs.
